Windows of Middletown
The idea to use stained glass for the windows of the Middletown Seventh-day Adventist Church originated with Elder Harold West, a previous pastor. The church membership was then solicited as to what scenes or themes they wished to have presented. A consensus developed that the windows should reflect a panorama of history as taught by the Bible, both Old and New Testaments, so as to reveal the flow of time from creation to the return of Jesus. Traditional beliefs as revealed by scripture are presented in the windows. Seventh-day Adventists believe, among other things, in a literal six-day creation as recorded in Genesis, a flood that destroyed the earth, the virgin birth of Jesus, the Friday afternoon death and Sunday resurrection of Jesus, and Christ’s return to earth such that 'every eye shall see Him.' These are all depicted in the windows of Middletown.
